I finally tracked my cash spending for a month and the number was shocking
I always thought keeping a budget on my phone was enough, and that the cash I spent was just small stuff that didn't matter. For April, I decided to write down every single cash purchase in a little notebook, even the $2 coffee or the $5 for parking. At the end of the month, I added it all up and it came to $327. That's money that was just gone without a real record, and it explained why my checking account always felt tighter than it should. I was totally wrong to ignore it. Now I take out a set $60 in cash each week for those small things, and the rest stays in the bank. It's a simple change but it made my budget actually work. Has anyone else been surprised by how much 'small' cash spending adds up?
