My bar manager told me to stop topping off the glass and I argued for a week straight

I always filled pint glasses to the very brim at my dive bar because I thought customers wanted a full glass, but my manager said I was wasting 10-15% of every beer and causing more spills. She showed me how leaving a proper head actually keeps the carbonation better and reduces complaints by about half. Does anyone else have a work habit they swore by until someone proved them wrong with actual numbers?

Can we talk about the cashier who just said 'I see you' and it hit different?

I was at the grocery store last Tuesday around 8pm in Toledo, just buying a frozen pizza and some soda after a long day. The cashier was this older lady, probably in her 60s, and she scanned everything without saying much. Then as she handed me my receipt, she looked me straight in the eye and said, 'I see you. You're doing better than you think.' I almost broke down right there at register 4. I didn't tell her anything about my day or my life, but she somehow knew I was struggling. It got me thinking about how often we overlook the people we interact with for 30 seconds. Has anyone else had a random stranger say something that felt like they knew exactly what you were going through?

I finally had a day where my back didn't ache at all last Thursday

It was wild. I woke up, got out of bed, and didn't have that normal stiffness in my lower back. No popping or creaking when I bent over to tie my shoes. I actually went for a 3 mile walk in the park near my apartment in Portland and my hips didn't complain even once. Later that afternoon I helped a buddy move a heavy couch up three flights of stairs and felt totally fine after. Usually I'm wrecked for days after stuff like that. My wife even said I was smiling all day which is rare for me. Has anyone else just had one random pain free day after dealing with something chronic for years?

That one Wednesday where everything went wrong at the office

I had a day last fall where I spilled coffee on my keyboard before 8am, then my boss asked me to redo a report I'd spent 6 hours on because she changed the format. To top it off, my car battery died in the parking lot and I had to wait 45 minutes for a jump. Has anyone else had a day where it felt like the universe was just messing with you?

Tried freezing my bread and it actually made my toast better

I always had loafs go stale before I could finish them, so last month I threw a half loaf in the freezer on a whim. Toasted a slice straight from frozen this morning and it came out way crispier on the outside but still soft inside. My buddy who works at a bakery told me freezing stops the starch from recrystallizing which is what makes bread go hard. Anyone else noticed their toast gets better when you freeze the bread first?

Vent: The difference a real vacuum made in my carpet after 5 years of cheap ones

Honestly, I've been using those $40 stick vacuums from the drugstore for years and just thought my carpet was supposed to look kind of flat and dingy. Last weekend I borrowed my neighbor's Miele canister vacuum and ran it over my living room rug - the amount of dirt and pet hair it pulled up was insane. I bet I've been walking on a layer of grime this whole time because I was too cheap to spend over $100. Has anyone else had that shock when you finally use a decent vacuum?

Had to choose between two different moving dolly types for my crew last month

I run a small moving company in Austin and we needed new dollies for our next big job. I had to pick between the standard 4-wheel furniture dolly and the flat platform cart with pneumatic tires. The flat cart costs about $80 more per unit but handles stairs way better. I went with the flat carts because three of our last five jobs had staircases. So far they've saved us at least 2 hours per move and nobody has complained about scraping walls. Has anyone else had good luck using those stair climbing attachments for dollies?
