My old calorie counting notebook taught me what apps get wrong

I found my binder from 2004 with handwritten food logs the other day... back then I wrote down every bite. Now everyone I know just trusts their fitness app to estimate portion sizes and it drives me crazy. A half cup of rice is not the same as a "serving" when the app guesses based on a photo. How do you all actually measure your portions when the numbers don't seem to add up?

My eyeballing method is called "that looks about right...ish" - and it shows.

Started measuring with my knuckles once. Got close enough that the finished piece actually sat level. Honestly, "that looks about right" works more often than people give it credit for.
