The day I stopped leaving voicemails changed everything
I spent 2 years leaving voicemails for my old college friend Sarah every few months, never getting a call back. Then last summer I tried texting her a simple photo of our favorite diner in Portland with just a question mark. She replied in 10 minutes and admitted she never listens to voicemails from unknown numbers. Has anyone else been using the wrong method to reach out?

Oh man, that is such a classic move. Voicemails are basically dead for anyone under 40. I had a buddy I hadn't talked to in years and I kept calling his landline like a fool. Finally I just sent a dumb meme on Instagram and he replied in two minutes. Seriously, ditch voicemails forever. Just send a text or a DM with something specific like a photo or a shared memory.

Right, so voicemail is basically a black hole for anyone born after 1990. I'd have better luck leaving a message in a bottle. These days if I don't get a text back in ten minutes I just assume I've been ghosted into the shadow realm. My dad still leaves me voicemails that are three minutes long and I have to mentally prepare myself like I'm about to sit through a film. At this point I think "unknown number" voicemails should just go straight to a spam folder with junk mail and expired coupons.
