Turns out a bent paperclip works great for cleaning my sewing machine tension discs

Last week my machine kept making loops on the bottom of the stitch, so I took out the tension assembly and found a wad of lint stuck between the discs. I used a bent paperclip to gently scrape it out and now it sews like new. Has anyone else found random household items that fix their gear without buying specialty tools?

Used a toothpick to clear the gunk out of my lawnmower carburetor jets once... worked perfect.

Wood tends to splinter off in the carb bowl though, just a heads up.
