Had a weird realization at the flea market in Phoenix last month

Ngl, I was just looking for a cheap replacement blade for my scroll saw and ended up talking to this guy who restores old hand planes. He showed me how to sharpen a chisel using just a flat tile and some water, no fancy jig needed. I tried it when I got home and it actually works better than the $40 sharpening system I bought off Amazon. Anyone else got a weird thrift store find that totally changed their workshop game?

Funny you mention that, I picked up a beat up old mill file for a buck and it squares up chisels better than any guide I ever used.

Picked up an old drawknife at a flea market and it cuts curves better than my brand new one.
