The leg press incident at Gold's last Tuesday still bugs me

I was at Gold's on 4th Street around 7pm, mid set on the leg press, when the guy next to me drops a 45 pound plate on his foot and just stands there staring at it. No reaction, no yelp, nothing. I asked if he was good and he mumbled something about his toes being numb. Manager came over 5 minutes later after he limped to the desk. Would you have just kept going or called someone right away?

Oh man, that's a weird one. I gotta say though, I don't think the plate dropped on his foot - it sounds more like he just let it slip off the machine while he was loading it, not a full drop from height. Those 45 pounders are awkward to handle when you're tired. Still, the fact he stood there like a statue is pretty funny in a sad way. I would've called someone right away, because numb toes can mean nerve damage or a break even if you don't feel it right then. That adrenaline can hide pain for a bit, you know? The manager dragging it out 5 minutes makes me think that Gold's on 4th has worse customer service than my old gym.

Huh, I never thought about it that way, but you might actually be onto something with the adrenaline thing. It's like when you stub your toe real bad and it takes a second for the pain to hit, except with 45 pounds that numbness could be a SERIOUS sign. Honestly, the weirdest part to me is how nobody else helped him, you'd think at least one person would have said something instead of just letting him stand there like a mannequin.
