That $60 lifting belt I bought off Amazon last year was a total waste

Honestly, I thought I was saving a few bucks by getting a cheap nylon belt instead of a leather one. After about three months the velcro started peeling off during deadlifts. I finally caved and spent $120 on a real leather single-prong belt from a known brand. Night and day difference. The cheap one actually slipped mid-rep on a heavy set and tweaked my lower back. Has anyone else learned the hard way that some gym gear is worth spending more on?

Gotta disagree, my cheap velcro belt held up fine for two years.

My buddy Mark bought a cheap velcro belt from a gas station outside Phoenix and it snapped on him during a family barbecue. He was just standing there flipping burgers and the buckle just flew off into the grass. @baker.riley you might have gotten lucky with yours, but his lasted maybe 4 months tops. He spent the rest of that day holding his pants up with one hand and a spatula in the other, lol. Even his mom was laughing at him when she found the buckle near the hose.
