Why does nobody talk about how a $5 tube of caulk can ruin your entire bathroom tile job?

I spent two days laying subway tile in my guest bath only to realize, after the grout dried, that I'd been using the wrong type of caulk for the corners and now it's all cracking and pulling away.

Isn't it crazy how the smallest, cheapest part of a project can cause the biggest failure? I see this all the time with people using the wrong primer before painting, and then the whole coat just peels off. That tiny detail you didn't think mattered ends up ruining all the hard work you put in.

Yeah, I learned that the hard way painting my kitchen cabinets. I skipped the deglosser because the old paint seemed fine, just a bit shiny. Two weeks later the new paint started chipping every time we opened a door. Had to strip everything back down and start over, which took three times as long. Now I always check the surface and use the right prep stuff, even if it feels like an extra step. It saves so much trouble later.
