Trying to level a floor for laminate took me a whole weekend

I started laying laminate in my spare room and thought the floor was pretty flat. It wasn't. The first few planks clicked fine, but then I hit a low spot that made a board rock and click loudly. I had to pull everything up and use floor leveling compound. In my experience, mixing that stuff is a race against time, and I messed up the first batch. What should have been a one-day job turned into three full days of scraping, drying, and re-checking with a long level. Has anyone else had to fix a floor that seemed okay but really wasn't?

Honestly, the worst part is that hollow sound it makes when you step on it later.

Come on @williamh48, that hollow sound is the best part, it's like a little reward for your hard work.
