Serious question, did anyone else's garage door spring snap like mine did last Friday?

Came home from work and the door just fell halfway down, scared the crap out of me lol. Had to call a guy in to replace both springs for $280 because I didn't want that thing taking my head off. Anyone else had this happen randomly or was it just my bad luck?

Yeah that exact same thing happened to me about two months ago. Scared the hell out of me too because I was walking under it when it let go. Springs on garage doors are under crazy tension so when they snap it sounds like a gunshot. $280 is actually not bad for both springs replaced, I paid $320 but the guy had to come out on a Saturday. The thing is you really don't want to mess with those springs yourself because they can kill you. One wrong move and that cable whips around with enough force to break bones or worse.
