I thought 'liquid nails' was just a silly name until my kitchen backsplash project

I was putting up some subway tile in my kitchen and ran out of the thin-set mortar I usually trust. My neighbor, a retired carpenter, handed me a tube of Liquid Nails and said, 'This stuff will hold a car to the ceiling, just trust me.' I was super skeptical but tried a small section. Two days later, I tried to adjust one tile and nearly pulled the drywall off with it. That stuff is no joke. Has anyone else had a simple product totally surprise them like that?

Used to think it was just a catchy name too.

What's the real story behind it then? I looked into it once and there's usually some weird history or inside joke. Makes you wonder how many other names we just accept without question.
