Debate: Should you fix a blown outlet yourself or always call an electrician?

Last month my kitchen outlet sparked and went dead. I watched three YouTube videos and replaced it myself in 45 minutes, but my neighbor says I was crazy to not hire a pro. What's your cutoff for calling a sparky versus tackling electrical DIY? I figure if the wires aren't burned I can handle it, but maybe I'm wrong.

Read this thing online from a old electrician forum where a guy said most house fires start from outlets that looked fine but had loose connections behind the wall. Made me think twice honestly. He said new outlets are only like 50 cents so it's probably worth just swapping it yourself if the wires aren't burned or melted like you said. You replaced yours and it worked out, so what kind of wire did you have in there?

Did you check the wire gauge before you bought the replacement, @jennifer358?
