PSA: I thought digital art NFTs were just a dumb fad for rich people.
A friend in Austin sent me a link to a free mint for a local artist's work 6 months ago, so I got one just for fun. I figured it was worthless, but I liked the picture. Then last week, someone offered me $50 for it on a marketplace because they were collecting that artist's whole set. It made me see that for some digital artists, it's a real way for fans to directly support and own a piece of their work. Has anyone else had a small NFT moment that changed their view on digital art collecting?

Oh my goodness, that is the million dollar question, isn't it? I've been watching this whole thing from the sidelines and I can't help but notice how it mirrors something I see every day at the grocery store. People get so caught up in chasing a good deal or a freebie that they forget to ask if it's actually useful. It is like when a store has a buy one get one free sale on something nobody really needs, and suddenly everyone has to have it. That silly monkey picture was never about the picture, it was about the thrill of getting something for nothing and telling your friends about it. I bet half the people who bought it couldn't even find the file on their computer after they downloaded it.
