One person's feedback changed how I color grade everything now
I was showing a landscape piece at a local art walk last spring and this older photographer spent about 10 minutes pointing out my shadows were all crushed to black. He showed me his phone with a similar scene where the shadows had blue in them and it totally shifted how I approach depth in my digital paintings now. Has anyone else had a stranger's offhand comment completely change their workflow?

Start checking your blacks for color casts. Total game changer for depth.

Eh, not sure about that honestly. A color cast in the blacks can be a style choice if it fits the mood you're going for. Sometimes a bit of warmth in the shadows adds more atmosphere than a pure black does.
