A gallery owner told me my contrast was way too high and it stung at first
I spent 6 months doing these moody cityscapes for a show in Portland last January. She pointed at one of my neon sign photos and said the blacks were crushed and I was losing all the detail in the shadows. After pulling back on the contrast slider by about 15% I actually started getting comments about how much depth the pieces had. Has anyone else had a critique that initially hurt but actually fixed a blind spot in your workflow?

... reminds me of when I was shooting film in college and my professor told me all my prints looked like they'd been dunked in coffee... turned out she was right about my dodging technique being way off.

Dunked in coffee sounds like a compliment to me honestly.
