Watching a supplier blow a $20k contract at a Royal Oak networking event made me rethink my whole approach.
They showed up late and spent the whole time on their phone, so now I vet every new partner at a casual meetup first. Anyone else test business relationships outside the office before signing anything?

Read a blog that called it the "coffee test" for exactly this reason.

Honestly, I started doing the coffee test with every new hire. Just ask them to make a pot when the office one runs out. It sounds small, but you learn a lot about who pitches in without being asked and who just walks past an empty machine.
