Vent: Tried the new automated inventory system at my auto parts shop vs the old clipboard method
My boss spent $2,400 on this fancy scanner system from a vendor in Farmington Hills. Supposed to track every spark plug and oil filter in real time. After 3 weeks, half the stock was wrong in the system because the scanner glitches when parts are stacked. Old clipboard and a pen never lied to me. Anyone else deal with tech that just adds more headaches?

Wait, $2,400 for a scanner that can't handle stacked parts? That's nuts. I'd be furious if I dropped that kind of cash and it couldn't even tell a spark plug from a brake pad when they're sitting on top of each other. Old clipboard and a pen never gave me a false count, and it didn't need firmware updates either. How are you convincing your boss to not throw the whole system in the trash?

And that's exactly why I still keep a paper backup in my glovebox. Tech is great until it isn't, and $2,400 for something that can't handle a simple stack of parts just hurts. Your old clipboard probably never needed a software patch either.
