The new coffee shop on Woodward is charging $8 for a basic latte and I think it's killing the block

Last week I saw the old hardware store space got turned into this fancy place with marble counters. They opened last month and now the lunch spot next door says their morning crowd is gone because people just grab the expensive coffee and leave. Are we just trading real local spots for places that look good but don't help the neighborhood?

violafox is totally right, the rent thing is the next shoe to drop. That's so rough for your friend, four hundred is a brutal jump out of nowhere. Just feels like these coffee shops are the first sign of a whole wave rolling through.

Watch the rent go up next, pushing out everyone left.

Saw my friend get a notice last month saying her rent was going up by four hundred dollars. She tried to talk to the office but they just said it was "market rate" now. She's packing boxes this weekend because she just can't make it work.
