A supplier in Sterling Heights told me 'that's just how we do it here' when I asked about a late delivery.

I was waiting on a key part for a client job in Royal Oak last Tuesday, and it was already two days late. I called the place, and the guy on the phone just said that phrase like it was a good reason. It meant my crew of three guys sat around for half a day, costing me over $800 in lost time. He didn't even try to check the tracking or offer a fix. It makes you wonder how some local businesses stay open with that attitude. Has anyone else had a supplier in the metro area just shrug off a problem like that?

My graphic designer friend told me she charges $500 just for tagline brainstorming sessions, and that's before you even get the final phrase picked out. I remember seeing a wedding invitation suite once where the calligrapher added a $200 "love story" line in fancy script, and the couple didn't even catch it until after they paid... It's like people are buying the mystique more than the actual words sometimes. Jennifer358 mentioned brand promises, and I've heard of agencies charging extra to "own" a specific phrase for your business too, like a mini trademark without the paperwork.

Oh my gosh, @patricia42, you are SO right. It is absolutely wild what some people will charge for a few fancy words. I saw a story about a simple logo that cost over a thousand dollars just because it had a "brand promise" line with it. Makes you wonder what they are really paying for sometimes.
