Rant: My client's website traffic tanked after a Google update in April, so I tried a weird internal linking fix.

I read a case study about linking old blog posts to new ones using exact keyword anchors, so I spent a day adding 50 links across their site. Their traffic bounced back 20% in two weeks, which was wild. Has anyone else tried this specific tactic after an update?

That sounds like a total correlation vs causation thing. Google's just volatile after updates, your fix probably had nothing to do with it.

Wait, didn't he say his fix actually worked though? Google's updates are chaotic but they don't usually bounce back like that on their own. I'd be curious to see if his change held up long term.

Oh, so you're saying my hours of work were just a weird coincidence with Google's mood swing? Guess I'll just go back to hoping the algorithm gods are happy next time instead of trying to fix anything.
