My old boss told me to "always under-promise and over-deliver" and I thought he was just being cynical

Took on a freelance project last month, told the client it'd be done in 2 weeks, finished in 10 days, and they were thrilled with the extra time. Has anyone else found that simple rule actually works better than trying to impress people upfront?

Works for everything from estimates to showing up on time honestly.

I started doing the whole show up 15 minutes early thing a few years back and it changed everything. People notice when you're actually there before them, it sets a good tone. For estimates I add a little extra buffer too, like if I think it'll take a week I say 10 days. That way if something comes up I'm not scrambling. It's just way less stressful than cutting it close all the time. Once you get in the habit it's hard to go back.
