My client in Portland said my reports were 'data dumps' instead of stories
She told me straight up, 'I need to know why the numbers matter, not just what they are.' So I cut the raw data appendix and now open each report with three key points from the dashboard. It feels weird leaving out so much detail... but she said the last one was the first she actually read all the way through. Anyone else get told their work is too dense and have a good way to slim it down?

Leaving out detail feels weird but getting read is the whole point.

betty_barnes is right about the whole point being getting read. I used to cram every detail in and my posts just died. Leaving stuff out feels wrong at first, like you're not giving the full story. But you have to trust that people will get it from the pieces you do give them. It forces you to only keep the good parts. The weird feeling goes away once you see more people actually engaging.
