Found out my old thermostat was costing me $40 a month for no reason

I switched from a basic dial thermostat to a programmable one last month after my electric bill hit $180 in October. Turns out my old unit was running the heat all night even when nobody was home. The new one lets me set a schedule so the house only warms up 30 minutes before I wake up. I saved $42 on my first bill and the thing only cost me $35 at Home Depot. Has anyone else found a simple swap like this that cut their utility costs more than they expected?

Yo I did the same thing with my thermostat last winter. Game changer for real. Also swapped out all my old bulbs for LEDs and that cut like $15 off my bill every month without me even noticing.

$42 in one month? That thing basically paid for itself before you even finished your coffee. I swapped out a 20 year old water heater for a tankless model and my gas bill dropped like it was on a diet. I felt like a genius until I realized I just spent $1,200 to save $15 a month. So congrats on actually being smart with your money, I guess.
