Appreciation post: my old washing machine that lasted 18 years finally gave out
My Whirlpool washer from 2006 finally died last Wednesday. It started making this horrible grinding noise during the spin cycle and then just stopped working. I called a repair guy but he said the motor was shot and parts aren't made for that model anymore. I ended up buying a new one for $650 at Lowe's and honestly I'm a little sad about it. The new one has all these digital settings and beeps and I just want a simple knob and a button. Has anyone else had a hard time letting go of an old appliance that worked fine for years?

Wait, $650 for a new washer? That's actually not bad... My old Kenmore from 2002 finally kicked it last month and I paid almost $900 for the replacement. The new one has this digital display that looks like a spaceship control panel and it drives me nuts. I miss the old knobs, the ones you could turn without having to read a manual first.

Oh come ON, a spaceship control panel? It's a washing machine, not a NASA command center. You push a button, you turn a dial, it washes clothes. Seriously, how complicated can it be? I bet you spent more time complaining about the digital display than it would take to just read the manual once and be done with it. People act like a slightly different interface is some kind of life crisis. It's a washer, it spins water around, just let it do its thing.
