A client said my website copy was 'too robotic' and it stung

They specifically said my 'About Us' page sounded like a press release and told me to just write like I talk. I rewrote it in a more casual voice and my contact form submissions went up by 15% last month. Has anyone else gotten feedback that actually improved their results?

Honestly, I was all about that formal, press release style for years. Thought it made us look legit. Then @derek78's point hit me - people really do just want to talk to a person. That "too robotic" feedback stings but it's the truth, your 15% bump proves it. I switched to writing like I talk on my own site and saw a similar jump in leads, so yeah, that feedback was a game changer for me.

Got the opposite experience, my formal copy actually converts better for my audience.

Ever notice how people just want to talk to a person, not a company? @scott.charlie's thing makes sense too, some folks want that official feel. Guess it's all about who's reading.
