A client offered me a full-time job at his factory after I fixed a major panel issue.
I was finishing up a rewire at a local plant, and the owner pulled me aside in the main office. He said, 'You're the first electrician who actually explained the root cause instead of just the fix, and I need that on my team permanently.' It's a steady paycheck with benefits, but I'd have to close my shop and let my two guys go. Has anyone taken a secure job over running their own small business?

Wow, that's a huge compliment (and a tough choice).

Starting with the opposite take, @ryanf66 might have a point about stability but that path can be a golden cage. Plant jobs often come with crazy overtime demands and zero flexibility if a kid gets sick or a parent needs help. Seen plenty of people burn out on that "secure" paycheck after a year because they never had time to actually enjoy the money. Lisa's compliment means the other offer saw something special, maybe the kind of potential that plant work never rewards. Is the stability really worth it if you wake up dreading every Monday?

Honestly, that's a real "bird in the hand" moment. Tbh, I knew a guy who took a plant job like that and @lisa_bennett is right, it's a tough call but the stability was huge for his family.
