Rant: The one comment that made me rethink my entire return process

I had this customer last Tuesday at my accounting firm's front desk who pointed out my return instructions were 'impossible to follow' because I buried the deadline in paragraph three. She told me I needed to put the key date in bold at the top, and I honestly felt stupid for not noticing it sooner. Has anyone else had a random customer point out something obvious that totally changed how you handle your paperwork?

Last year I had a guy at the parts counter tell me my return forms were laid out backwards because I had the part number on the back instead of the front. I thought I was being clever saving space. But he was right, it made no sense at all. I used to think customers were just being picky about small stuff like that. Now I realize if they can see a problem in two seconds, it means I was too close to the work to notice it myself. That one comment saved me hours of headaches every month.

Well that kind of thing stings because it's so painfully obvious once someone points it out. I had a customer once tell me my parking lot signs were confusing because I used "Visitor Parking" but didn't say where visitors should actually go. Honestly saved me from a bunch of frustrated phone calls later on.
