Paid $200 for a "lifetime warranty" vacuum that died in 14 months

I dropped $200 on a vacuum from a big box store because the sales guy swore up and down it had a lifetime warranty. When the motor gave out after 14 months, the company said the warranty only covers the belt and filter, not the motor. Has anyone else been tricked by a so-called lifetime warranty that turned out to be a joke?

A buddy of mine had the same thing happen with a shop vac he bought for his garage. Paid extra for what they called a "lifetime warranty" and the switch broke after a year and a half. When he tried to use it, they told him the warranty only covered the hose and the wheels, not the electrical parts. He was so mad he drove back to the store and showed the manager the receipt and the warranty booklet. Turns out the fine print on the back defined "lifetime" as the life of the product, which they claimed was only two years. That whole experience taught me to read every word of those warranties before I buy anything expensive.

Yeah, after that kind of hassle I just started taking photos of the receipt and warranty fine print with my phone before leaving the store.
