My internet was out for 3 days and the tech support guy told me to 'try unplugging the router' after I'd already done it 5 times.

Remember that time my cable box just kept resetting? I called and they told me to unplug it for a full minute... like @nina_butler said, they don't listen. I had already done it twice while on hold. The guy made me do it again while he waited, and of course it did nothing. They ended up sending a whole new box a week later.

Wait, was this really that big of a deal in the moment though? I mean, yeah, it's annoying having to sit through the same script again, but you got a new box and everything worked out in the end, right? In my experience, those reset loops are a known bug and sometimes the techs really do just have to follow their checklist before they can escalate it. Honestly, a week turnaround for a free replacement sounds about standard for cable companies these days, so I'd say you came out okay overall.

Ugh, that's the worst. They always say that even after you tell them you already did it (like, hello, I'm not a total newbie).
