My buddy told me to just keep calling the airline until they gave me a refund

I had a flight from Chicago to Miami get canceled last month, and my friend said to call the airline's customer service line over and over to get a different agent who would refund me. I spent 6 hours on hold across three days, talking to five different people. Every single one gave me the exact same answer about their policy, which was just a travel credit. In the end, I got nothing but a sore ear and a huge phone bill. Has anyone actually had this 'keep calling' strategy work, or is it just a myth that wastes your time?

That's brutal, and honestly, I used to swear by that keep-calling method. Figured you just had to find the one nice agent. But after a similar mess with a hotel booking, my view totally changed. It seems like they all work from the same script now, and the first answer you get is usually the only answer. You just end up punishing yourself, like you said, with the hold time and the headache. It feels less like a strategy and more like a form of self-torture after a certain point.

My last cable company saga involved being transferred six times before someone finally admitted they just couldn't do what I was asking. The whole script thing is real, you can hear them clicking through the same prompts. It's like they're all just reading from a binder of "no" with different fonts. The worst part was the seventh person offered me a discount on a service I didn't want, as if that fixed anything.
