Had a phone call with a cable company rep who literally laughed at me
I called Comcast in Portland to cancel my plan since I was moving, and the guy on the line actually laughed and said 'good luck finding anyone better' before hanging up. Is it just me or do these reps get trained to be hostile on purpose?

Wait, did the rep actually laugh or was it one of those awkward half-chuckles people do when they're uncomfortable? I've dealt with Comcast in Portland myself and yeah their phone support is pretty rough, but most of the time they're reading off a script that literally tells them to keep you on the line as long as possible. The laughter part sounds like the guy just had a bad day or maybe he was new and nervous. I'd call back and talk to a supervisor if I were you, they usually straighten things out fast once you mention the laughing thing. Just saying, your mileage may vary but that's not standard training for any cable company I've dealt with.

Honestly I used to defend these companies, I figured people were just exaggerating or having bad luck but this kind of thing changes your whole view. Its not like a nervous half laugh either, the guy straight up laughed and hung up before you could even respond, thats a whole different level of disrespect. I used to think cable reps got a bad rap because customers are always yelling at them, but stuff like this proves some of them just dont care at all. No way thats normal or something they get trained to do, but its still unacceptable and you deserve to complain to a manager. Makes me wonder how many other people get treated like garbage and just give up instead of pushing back.
