The day a curly hair client walked out mid-consult in downtown Austin

I had this client come in for a big chop consultation, talked with her for like 20 minutes about her curl pattern and what she wanted. I was pushing hard for a dry cut method I learned at a workshop last fall, swore by it for all curly textures. She stopped me mid-sentence and said "you're not listening to what I want, you're just selling your favorite technique." Then she just got up and left. That really made me question if I was pushing my own preferences over what the client actually asked for. On one hand, I think dry cuts give way better shape for curls and save time. On the other hand, she had a point about not forcing a method on someone who didn't ask for it. I still use dry cuts but now I start every curly consult by asking "what matters most to you today?" before I even suggest a thing. Has anyone else had a client call you out on pushing a technique you love?

That 20 minutes should have been 5 minutes of listening first.
