I think the push for bi-monthly haircuts is wrong for most people

Everyone says you need a trim every six to eight weeks to keep hair healthy, but from my chair, that's just not true for a lot of clients. I've had people with straight, fine hair come in stressed about split ends when they just went two months ago, and their hair looks perfect. For them, I started suggesting three or even four months between visits, and their hair actually got thicker and held style better. I see it most with folks who don't use heat tools much, their ends just don't wear out that fast. It saves them money and time, and they're happier. The old rule made sense when everyone got blunt cuts, but with today's layers and textures, it's outdated. I'm not saying never cut it, but watch the hair, not the calendar. Trust what you see over what you've always been told.

My best friend has straight fine hair and only gets a cut every four months. Her ends never split and the style stays perfect. The whole six week thing is a scam for most hair types. I got pressured into frequent trims for years and my hair never grew past my shoulders. Now I go every three months and it's the healthiest it's ever been. It's all about listening to your hair, not some outdated salon schedule.

I mean my hair's wavy and thick and I only get it cut maybe twice a year. I check the ends every few weeks and just snip the splits myself with proper shears. The whole regular trim schedule made my hair feel thinner, honestly. Now it's past my collarbone for the first time ever.
