How long should a simple balayage actually take? My 3 hour estimate was way off
I booked a new client last Tuesday thinking a full balayage with toner would be 3 hours, but between the dense hair and her wanting that lived-in look with face frame, it turned into 5 hours and 20 minutes. My old assistant's timing logs from 2022 were all wrong for this texture, so I had to redo the foiling pattern twice and the toner sat longer than usual. Has anyone else dealt with time estimates going sideways when a client has really thick or coarse hair, and how do you quote that upfront now?

Yep, this is just like when a plumber quotes you an hour because the pipe looks normal and then finds out the whole thing is rusted. Thick coarse hair eats time the same way, and honestly I've started quoting 4 to 5 hours for new clients with dense texture and just telling them it might go faster.
