Hit 500 client bookings last month and it made me wonder if quantity even matters anymore
So I finally reached 500 total client appointments in my chair, which felt like a big deal when I started tracking 3 years ago. But then I looked back and realized maybe a third of those were rushed haircuts or color fixes that I basically did for free just to get a name out there. On one hand, that number proves I can keep a steady stream of people coming in. On the other hand, would I have been better off focusing on selling higher-end treatments to fewer clients? Has anyone else crossed a milestone and found yourself second-guessing what it really means for your career?

But doesn't the fact that you felt pressured to do those cheap fixes say more about the game you were playing than the number itself? Like, was 500 the point where you finally stopped chasing everyone and started picking your clients?

Hit 500 clients about two years ago and yeah, @kellyg14 that's basically what happened. I stopped taking every random job that came through and started saying no to people who clearly wanted me to cut corners just to save a buck. The cheap fixes were killing me because I'd spend more time making something look passable than just doing it right the first time. Once I hit that number I realized I had enough of a base that I could be picky about who I worked with. It wasn't about the number itself, it was about finally having the confidence to tell someone their budget was the problem, not my work.
