The Tuesday a typo in our press release went out to 40,000 inboxes
Two weeks ago I sent a product launch email to our full list of 40,000 subscribers, and the subject line read 'Our new plan saves you money on shipping, not to mention time.' There was no 'not to mention time' in the approved copy. I had pasted in a note to myself while drafting and never deleted it. Within 20 minutes, a reporter from a trade site in Chicago replied asking if the extra phrase was a hint at a second feature. I had to send a correction email the same day, which got a 3 percent open rate versus 28 percent on the first one. Has anyone here built a rule where a second person has to eyeball the subject line before a big send?
Wait, that 3 percent open rate on the correction is pretty normal actually, correction emails always tank because people already saw the first one. The 28 percent on the original is the real number that matters, and losing it to a leftover draft note is brutal. We do the two-eyes thing on subject lines but honestly the draft note problem is a whole different beast, you gotta check the actual sent version not the doc.
