My 800 word email updates got ignored for 6 years, a 4 sentence script fixed it in one quarter

I spent 6 years writing internal email updates like they were legal briefs. Every project got 800 words, background context, three appendices. Numbers always went up over 20%. Last quarter our new COO asked why nobody read my stuff. I got defensive. Then she sent me her script for a 90 second video announcement, it was 4 sentences. One problem, one action, one timeline, one ask. That was it. It went out and engagement tripled compared to anything I'd done. I realized I was writing for my own anxiety about being complete, not for the actual people scanning between meetings. Anyone else have to unlearn corporate writing habits after seeing something brutally simple work better?
