Appreciation post: how our internal newsletter got a 40% open rate bump in 3 months

Honestly, I was skeptical when my boss asked me to overhaul our monthly newsletter last fall. We were stuck at around 22% open rate for like two years, no matter what we tried. I started doing short video snippets from our CEO instead of the usual text-heavy updates. Also cut the email from four sections down to two and added a simple poll at the bottom. Within 3 months, open rate jumped to 62% and engagement comments went way up. The biggest change was just making it feel personal and less like a press release. Has anyone else seen a big shift from switching up format like that?

The video thing is smart. It reminds me of how people actually communicate these days - nobody wants to read a wall of text anymore, even at work. Restaurants started putting QR codes on tables for menus and everyone hated it because it felt less personal, same kinda deal with newsletters. When stuff feels like a robot wrote it, people just tune out.

Bet QR codes and video newsletters are basically the same thing - nobody asked for either of them.
