Wrote off HSM toolpaths until Rick ran one in front of me
I figured high speed machining was just a salesman word for running twice as fast and burning up inserts. Then Rick in bay 3 ran a 1/2 inch end mill at 9000 rpm in 4140 on the Haas and that thing walked through it cooler than my old 3000 rpm recipe. We got 40 percent more tool life out of the same batch of carbide. Anyone running HSM on a machine without thru spindle coolant or should I fix that first?
