Italy's approach to tool offsets never worried me before. Hearing about your near-miss has me double-checking my own setups now.

Yeah, tool offsets are deceptively simple until they're not. My old shop had a lathe that would drift over time, so we started logging every adjustment. Found out the heat from running all day was throwing things off by a few thou. Makes you respect the basics, like manual checks before each run.

It's funny how one close call can make you question all the little routines you take for granted. I see it with people's morning coffee rituals or even how they back their car out of the driveway. You just autopilot until something shakes you out of it.
