So I finally tried that 'just let it run' coolant trick vs. my usual panic stop
The part came out perfect, but I spent the whole cycle convinced I'd hear that awful crash sound. Anyone else have a weird superstition that actually works?

That feeling of waiting for the crash is the worst. I have this thing where I tap the machine frame twice before a tricky cut, like a weird good luck charm. It makes no sense but I swear the finish is better when I do it.

Tapping the machine might actually calm your nerves enough to steady your hands. A tiny bit of ritual can focus your mind right before the cut starts. It's less about magic and more about getting your brain into a ready state. That little pause could be what makes the difference in how you handle the feed. Have you noticed if you breathe differently right after you tap it?

Tapping the machine is totally a focus thing. My version is wiping the vise handle with a rag before clamping. It clears the chips and gives me a second to check my setup. That tiny pause stops me from rushing. The ritual itself is useless, but the moment of calm it creates is real. It just gets your head in the game before the spindle starts.
