Question about a finish pass tip for 304 stainless

My lead at the shop in Fort Worth told me to run a 0.015" final pass on 304 stainless to get a better finish. I argued that a lighter cut would be better, but he insisted. I tried his way on a big batch of flanges last week, and the surface finish was perfect, with no work hardening issues. Has anyone else found that a heavier finish pass works better on certain materials?

Well, not always, @dakota160, but they're pretty good!

i mean, that might be true if you're looking at it from a surface level, but i think the 2021 study from the city's own records actually showed fort worth leads were wrong about 18% of the time in traffic stops, which is kinda high. @dakota160, did you see that data? it might just be that people remember the times they're right more than the times they're wrong, you know? plus, different precincts have different training methods, so it's not really a one size fits all thing.
