Pro tip: I used to program every toolpath manually in G-code, but after a crash on a Haas VF-2 last year, I switched to using CAM software for anything more than a basic pocket. What's your cutoff for manual vs. CAM programming?

Manual programming is a good skill to have, but CAM is way faster for complex shapes.

Tbh you said "manual programming is a good skill to have" but then called it way slower for complex stuff. So what exactly makes it worth learning in your opinion if you're never gonna use it for the hard parts? Just seems like people say that to sound legit but then never actually write anything manual beyond basic drilling.

Oh man, a crash on a Haas is all the reason I need to let the computer handle it! My cutoff is basically "can I describe this shape to my mom over the phone?" If it takes more than two sentences, it's CAM time. I respect the old school manual coders, but my nerves can't take the excitement anymore.
