My old way of checking tool offsets was costing me scrap parts
For 5 years I used the same routine, touch off every tool with paper and manually type the offsets into the control. Last month I finally got a tool presetter at the shop in Cleveland and it takes maybe 3 minutes per tool now. I used to burn 20 minutes per setup and still had a part go bad every week or two. Now I just run the presetter, load the numbers, and the first part is almost always inside tolerance. Has anyone else switched to a presetter and noticed their cycle times drop more than they expected?

The 3 minutes per tool thing sounds great on paper, but you're only counting the time at the presetter. You still gotta handle the tool, mount it, and if you're like me, verify the numbers on the first part anyway. So my cycle time barely moved, maybe 5%. What actually helped was just getting a good edge finder and writing offsets on a sticky note. Cheaper and I trust it more.
