My machine just hit 50,000 hours of runtime and I'm shocked it's still this tight

I was doing the monthly maintenance check on our old 2008 Haas VF-2 yesterday and pulled up the hour meter. It read 50,012. I honestly expected way more slop in the ways and a lot more chatter by now. We've run everything from aluminum to 4140 on it for 15 years. The boss said 'that's why we do the oil changes,' but still. Has anyone else seen a machine go this long without a major rebuild?

Used to think all machines turned to junk after 30k hours. Your post shows what real care can do. Makes me want to check our own logs now.

You really think most gear hits a wall at 30k? From what I've seen, it's more about how it was treated from day one. Some stuff is just built cheap and will fail no matter what. Good maintenance helps, but it can't fix a bad design.

Had a buddy who bought a cheap off brand welder. Treated it like gold, cleaned it after every job. Still crapped out before 500 hours. @the_nathan you're right about checking the logs. Sometimes you can't polish a turd.
