Just realized the dirtiest air filter makes the best swarf collector

Was out in the shop last Wednesday making some aluminum parts for a client in Cleveland. My coolant was getting real cloudy and I kept chasing poor surface finish. Spent two hours messing with speeds and feeds, nothing helped. Finally noticed the chip tray was backing up because my coolant filter was clogged with weeks of swarf. Changed it out with a new one and the difference was night and day. Now I swap filters every Monday morning no matter what, just like I change my truck's oil at 3000 miles. Anyone else find that a simple filter change fixes more problems than tweaking your program ever does?

Spent a whole Saturday once chasing a chatter issue on my lathe. Finally gave up, went to grab a beer, and noticed my air filter looked like it was growing a FUR coat. Cleaned it out, problem gone. Now I change mine every month whether it needs it or not.

Funny how the little overlooked things always cause the biggest headaches.
