I finally wrote down every offset change for 2 weeks and found 3 tools drifting the same way
Kept blaming the material on a run of 4140 parts, but after logging offsets in a notebook for 2 weeks I saw the same 3 end mills pulling about 0.002 to 0.003 every 40 parts like clockwork. Turned out my tool holders had chips packed in the taper that I never checked, and blowing them out cut the drift way down. Anyone else keep a paper log like this or do you just track it in the control?
