A senior guy at the shop told me my coolant mix was way too weak

He said 'you're running it like water, not coolant' when he saw my finish on some aluminum parts. I was mixing it at about 5 to 1, so I bumped it up to a 10 to 1 ratio like he said. The tool life on my end mills has been way better for the last month. Anyone else have a simple tip that made a big difference like that?

Yeah, that 'running it like water' thing is real. I was doing the same thing on a few parts and wondering why my inserts were chipping. Bumping the mix up fixed it fast, and you don't really waste that much coolant for the gain in tool life.

Had the same thing happen with our band saw coolant. Went from a weak mix to a proper one and the blades last twice as long now. Makes you wonder what else we're doing wrong, right?

But honestly @singh.wren, sometimes a weak mix is fine if you're just cutting soft stuff and trying to save money.
