Tried a $400 OBD scanner on a $800 beater, found a $1,200 issue
Picked up a 2004 Civic in Dayton for 800 bucks. Ran rough but drove okay. Buddy loaned me his fancy Autel scanner, figured why not. Turns out the catalytic converter was shot and a O2 sensor was dead. I almost listed it online as a runner. That scan saved me from passing a smog-failing car to some poor kid. Spent 150 on a junkyard cat and 40 on a sensor, sold it for 2 grand. Lesson learned, now I always run a full scan before flipping anything. Anyone else trust a cheap code reader over gut feelings on these old Hondas?
